RiverBlue & World Rivers Day

How dirty are your jeans?

Join Mark Angelo on his discovery of the toxic fashion that is destroying many of the world’s rivers.

Over the last year, renowned river advocate Mark Angelo has engaged in a journey to explore the declining health of our world’s rivers in the feature documentary, RiverBlue. In honor of World Rivers Day, we will be launching the film’s website to raise awareness about this important issue.

Beginning his journey in Zimbabwe, Mark visited Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River, “A river the way it should be” according to him. He then traveled to the Yamuna and Ganges Rivers in India, the Pearl River in China and the Citarum River in Indonesia to witness the destruction caused by toxic waste disposal from top fashion brand manufacturers. Rivers that once provided clean water to neighboring communities, have now become cemeteries for all wildlife and far too contaminated to sustain life or to even bath in. Mark and the RiverBlue team were shocked to learn that one of the major polluting products are an iconic symbol of fashion that we all love, Blue Jeans. The dyes and harsh chemicals used to manufacture blue jeans are destroying the rivers of these countries.

Directed and written by Award-Winner, David McIlvride, described by John Doyle, esteemed critic for the Globe, as making documentaries that are “gut wrenching” and “eye popping”, RiverBlue brings together stunning images with the heartfelt stories from the scientist to the farmer, to the jean makers themselves.

The more people who see this film, the more people will be convinced that we need to do something about our toxic jean production immediately.
